Modern Dairy industry in India is now over 50 years old. After having created some unique and enduring business models during these years, it has indeed attained a maturity and resilience which allows it to look at the dairy farmer more as a leading &contributing member of the overall rural economy and the milk processor & marketer as an innovative businessman looking for steady, larger and more meaningful markets at the bottom of the pyramid as well as some niche markets at the middle and top of the pyramid. The impact of such lateral thinking and actions can be powerful & far-reaching and could lead the dairy sector to a totally different plane and the stake-holders to a new status; that of leaders in a new society that thinks in terms of efficiency, environment, education and nutrition which could actually improve the sustainability and profitability of the sector.
