摘要

India is one of the most competitive producers of milk in the world. Free grazing on common lands has augmented the competitiveness. It has enabled landless households to participate in dairy programme (IFCN 2004). In India most of the villages have permanent pastures or common lands popularly known as Gochar lands for grazing of animals. However, optimum production is not obtained from these lands due to growing of rainfed uncultivated fodder on the one hand, and untimely or uncontrolled grazing onthe other. In this depressing situation an innovative project under implementation at Dharmaj village in Anand district of Gujarat relating to fodder cultivation on common lands for dairy development is interesting.
