The practice of deceiving the consumer plays an important part in food trading and therefore also in food inspection. The German Food Act contains detailed regulations for the protection against such deception. These regulations concern food not appropriate for consumption, imitated, of inferior quality or misleadingly labeled. The most essential regulations are illustrated by practical examples.
