AbstractThe production of rhizomorphs byArmillaria melleafrom stumps samples collected in East Anglia was studied: those of broad‐leaved trees produced greater yields than those of pines and, in the absence of poisoning, over a much longer period after felling. The ability ofA. melleato form rhizomorphs is often reduced after prolonged growth in pine tissues. The interaction ofA. melleaand other fungi is briefly considered. Some implications of these observations for forestry practice are discusse
