Thanks to the whole set of their unique properties, beryllium and its oxide find wide use in various fields of technology. The main consumers of beryllium in the former USSR were the nuclear and aerospace industries. At present, beryllium and beryllium-based oxide ceramics are not manufactured in Russia because of the geopolitical changes that have occurred. The previously existing two plants in Ust-Kamenogorsk now belong to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The lack of its own beryllium-manufacturing plants makes Russia dependent on the import of this important strategic commodity.Rather topical is the problem of expanding the resources of mineral raw materials and creating Russia's own beryllium industry.
