Zinc in Human and Animal Health

摘要

Zinc deficiency is now a global problem threatening soil -plant -animal and human health. This review paper highlights the current status of Zn deficiency, its effects on growth, immune system, brain development and neural function, mental health, reproduction: pregnancy outcome and fertility in human and animal health. It describes Zn deficiency syndromes: anorexia, schizophrenia, Alzheimer, and factors that induce its deficiency: inherent-physiological, genetic, and environmental-smoking, alcohol intake, stress, infections: diarrhea, malaria, addiction to drugs; in animals "Parakeratosis": skin and skeletal disorders, wool shedding, poor feed efficiency; as well as nature and sources of diet, Zn recommendation-dietary, supplementation for human and animal health. Strategies and future thrust areas for research and for corrective measures of Zn deficiency and improvement of heath of human and animals are specified.
