摘要

Water management is going to be increasingly important with growing population and declining world foodgrain production, since food yield response to irrigation is almost double as compared to rainfed agriculture. The demand of water for agriculture, industry and power generation (hydel, thermal and atomic) are competing and increases with progressive development of human societies and with increase in the population. These two factors are inevitable and, therefore, satisfying the increasing water needs for the various sectors is always a matter of concern. Efficient water management for improving agriculture productivity is therefore inevitable. Water saving technologies such as drip / sprinklers systems are mostly practiced in horticulture / vegetable crops (and sugarcane) at present for enhancing water and fertiliser use efficiency.
