Effect of INM on Yields and Economics of Lentil and its Residual Effect on Rice in Rainfed Lowlands

An experiment was conducted during winter (Rabi) 2004-05 to rainy (Kharif) 2007 at the Crop Research Station, Ghaghraght, Bahraich (UP.) to study the effect of nutrient management practices on yields and economics of lentil, and its residual effect on succeeding rice crop. Lentil seed inoculated with Rhizobium +PSB (soil) along with 100% RDF, 75%RDF and 50% RDF resulted significantly higher number of nodules and dry weight of nodules as compared to FYM5t/ha along with 100% RDF, 75% RDF and 50% RDF, and 100% RDF alone. However, plant dry weight was significantly highest with 100% RDF+FYM 5t/ha over rest of the treatment. Application of 100% RDF + FYM 5t/ha was on par with 75% RDF+ FYM (5t/ha and 100% RDF+ Rhizobium + PSB but produced significantly highest grain and straw yield of lentil and net income over rest of the treatment. However, benefit: cost ratio was highest with 75% RDF+ Rhizobium + PSB. Protein production was highest with 100% RDF + FYM (5t/ha), however, content of protein was higher with 100% RDF+ Rhizobium +PSB treatment. Rice sown after lentil received 100% RDF+FYM 5t/ha produced the highest grain and straw yield followed by 75% RDF+FYM 5t/ha treatment. Application of 120kg N/ha to rice produced significantly highest grain and straw yield of rice over 60kg and no nitrogen. The mean percent increase in grain yield of rice with 120 kg N/ha was recorded to be 21.3 and 78.1 over 60kg N/ha and no nitrogen, respectively.
