PGR-induced changes in protein banding patterns of different corm sizes and cultivars of Gladiolus

Different parts of Gladiolus (leaf, petal and corm) exhibited different protein banding patterns in two varieties, viz; Apricot (AC) and Happy End (HE). Such varietal difference was distinct in medium sized category 4 corms (approx 10g). In view of such differences, change in the protein profile of various corm size (2, 4, 6 and 8) were studied. Among the two varieties corm size difference was more marked in HE. PGR treatment modified such banding patterns, most selectively in category 8 corms (approx 300mg) of HE, especially in polypeptides of lower molecular weights (20-35 kD). Further, in this variety, B_5 (Bayleton, 10~(-5)M) induced a polypeptide of 22 kD, while G_4 (GA_3, 10~(-4)M) overexpressed 22 and 55 kD polypeptides.
