Reductive cleavage of the Te-Te bond in ditellurides by CeCl_3/Sm system: A novel method for the synthesis of beta-telluroesters (and nitriles)

摘要

Diaryl ditellurides are conventiently reduced by a system consisting of CeCl_3/Sm in tetrahydrofuran to produce the aryltellurolates. This new tellurolate anion species react smoothly with alpha,beta-unsaturated esters (and nitriles) to give beta-telluroesters and nitriles) in modetrate to good yields.
