Synthesis of the trisaccharide segment of the glycolipid antigen specific to Mycobacterium paratuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium serotype-2

Mycobacterium paratuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium serotype 2 have the same characteristic glycopeptido-lipid containing the oligosaccharide hapten 2,3-di-O-Me-#alpha#-L-Fucp-(1->)-#alpha#-L-Rhap-(1->)-#alpha#-L-talp-(1->peptide). The synthesis of this trisaccharide in its fully protected form has been described. All the O-glycosylation reactions have been carried out with a high degree of #alpha#-selectivity.
