Synthesis of 6-aryl-2-(2-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonyl)-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3-(2H)-ones

Condensation of 2-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide 1 with beta-aroylpropionic acids 2 in ethanol affords the corresponding N-(2-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonyl)-beta-aroylpropionic acid hydrazones 3,which on treatment with gl. acetic acid undergo facile cyclization to yield 6-aryl-2-(2-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridine 3-carbonyl)-4,5-dihydro-pyridazin-3(2H)-ones 4. The compounds 4 have been tested for their antibacterial activity. The compounds 4 have been tested for their antibacterial activity.
