Encapsulation of podands by cyclodextrins: A spectrophotometric study

摘要

A spectrophotometric study of the encapsulation of isomeric podands 5a, 5b; 6a, 6b and 7a, 7b by #beta#- and #gamma#-cyclodextrins (CDs) has been made. The fluorescence spectra of naphthyl podands 5a and 5b in #gamma#-CD display a longer wavelength emission at 410 and 414 nm, respectively, indicating the formation of a 1:1 complex. The anthryl (6a and 6b) as well as phenanthryl (7a and 7b) podands being large for the cavity of #gamma#-CD do not show the same kind of encapsulation. However,an enhancement in the intensity of emission is observable in their fluorescence spectra, a characteristic of loose binding of the above podands by #gamma#-CD.
