摘要

1-Oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazoles 1a-f on reaction with Vilsmeier Haack reagent (DMF/POCI_3) furnish the respective 1-chloro-2-formylcarbazole derivatives 2a-f which on treatment with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol yield pyrazolo[3,4-a]carbazole derivatives 3a-f. All the chloro formyl compounds 2a-f have been tested for their antimalarialactivity against mosquito species and antimicrobial activities in comparison with chloroamphenicol as a reference compound.
