Sulfonyl pyrazoles and isoxazoles: Cycloaddition of nitrile imines and nitrile cxides to aryl styryl sulfones

nitrile imines and nitrile oxides by intermolecular cycloaddition reaction with aryl styryl sulfones 1 lead to the formation of tetrasubstituted pyrazolines 3 and trisubstituted isoxazolines 6. The 3 and 6 on dehydrogenation with chloranil in xylene gave pyrazoles 4 and isoxazoles 7. The IR and ~1H NMR spectral data have been used to ascertain the structures of the new compounds.
