A modified #epsilon# formalism is developed to performthermodynamic analysis for metallic solutions. The model calculation issuccessfully applied to describe oxygen and nitrogen equilibria in both liquidiron and alloyed steel melts. Relations between oxygen activities or contents andcomposition of Fe-O-X (X = Si, Cr, Ti and Al) melts are given quantitatively. The results are widely supported by the available experimental results. Nitrogensolubilities in Fe-Cr and Fe-Cr-Ni melts predicted by the present modelcalculation feature good agreement with experimental results.
