Integration of fish farming with poultry: effects of chicken manure in polyculture of carps and freshwater prawn

An experiment using chicken manure as direct dropping from poultry sheds over ponds and supplied from out side, was conducted for the polyculture of different fish species and freshwater prawn at 8,000/h.a densities in 0.1 ha ponds. After 12 months of culture, a significant higher (P<0.05) production of 4,290 kg/ha was observed from ponds receiving direct poultry dropping, whereas, 3,365 kg/ha production was resulted from manure treated ponds. Freshwater prawn survival was better in the ponds of manure application than the direct dropping one.
