Some mononuclear Ru(II) polypyridyl (2, 2'-bipyridyl/1, 10-phenanthroline) complexes contianing 3/hydroxy-4'-substituted flavones (L~2H and L~4H) as co-ligands have been synthesised and characterised on the basis of their elemental analyses, FAB mass and spectral (IR, UV/visible, ~1H NMR, and ~1H-~1H COSY NMR) data. Luminescence, electrochemical and antibacterial properties of the ligands and their Ru(II) complexes have also been discussed.
