The need for simultaneous multi-format audio monitoring yielded a variety of potential system solutions, which were ultimately ousted by a more cost-effective custom-modified product. As often happens in our industry, 'what goes around, comes around' and that modified product is now finding its way into other systems. London based Corinthian Television is a facilities company with wide experience in the production and transmission of live studio shows linking into major broadcasters. Formerly part of the Carlton Communications Group, Corinthian is today jointly owned by its management and by JFP Limited (the investment arm of the Telstar Group.) Its main studio and transmission facilities are based at the Chiswick Park Television Centre, which Corinthian built and has operated since March 2002. At IBC 2003 their chief engineer, David Chalcraft was a man with a mission. He recognised that the ultimate consumers of the transmissions were going to be using a variety of receiving equipment in their homes and that meant preparing the audio for more than one format. As he puts it: "1 was looking for a device that would allow me to simultaneously monitor and control the audio levels of both stereo and 5.1 surround."
