My father gave me a chemistry kit when I was about eleven. It contained abicarbonate rocket, where bicarbonate forms CO2 and the pressure causes the rocket to take off. It did not always work because the CO2 leaked, but I wanted to understand why. So I started exploringthe chemistry behind the rocket and I was hooked. The main reason that I ended up with a chemistry major honours degree was abit of a fluke. I knew the son of a chemistry professor at McGill University and I thought his course looked interesting, so I took it and ended up becoming a chemist. Most of my career has been a series of lucky accidents.
