NEW INSECTICIDES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF POMEGRANATE FRUIT BORER,DEUDORIX ISOCRATES (F.)

Field evaluation of new insecticide molecules for the management of pomegranate fruit borer, Deudorix isocrates was carried out at Bijapur (Karnataka) during 2010 and 20t~(-1). The study revealed that emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 0.25 g/1 ha recorded highest reduction in the fruit damage at 3, 7 and 14 days followed by spinosad 45 SC @ 0.20ml/l. The mean reduction in the damage with emamectin benzoate was 93.45 and 96.23% after first and second sprays during 2010, and it was to the extent of 92.68 and 96.75%, respectively during 20t~(-1). Similarly, spinosad recorded 94.84 and 95.50% reduction in the fruit damage after first and second sprays during 2010 and in 20t~(-1) it was 92.50 and 95.28%. The trees sprayed with emamectin benzoate (90.83 q/ha) andspinosad (88.91 q/ha) recorded highest quantity of marketable fruits and both were statistically on par in registering highest yield. Emamectin benzoate recorded highest mean (gross returns Rs. 908300/ha and mean net returns - Rs.835650/ha) followed byspinosad (gross-Rs.889100/ha and net returns-Rs.8t~(-1)240/ha). Emamectin benzoate and spinosad recorded maximum benefit cost ratio.
