AGRICULTURE CONSTITUTES ONLY ABOUT 20% of India's GDP but is the source of livelihood for almost two thirds of its population.Growth in agriculture is therefore crucial as it reflects the income and correspondingly,the purchasing power of the majority who constitute the market for other goods and services at least in good times.Agriculture also provides the raw materials for a host of industrial products.It is,therefore,not surprising that the growth in agriculture has a multiplier effect on the entire economy of a country like India.
