摘要

Prilling Tower may appear to be a major bottleneck for increasing the capacity of Urea Plants and prill temperature at the bottom of Prilling Tower is expected to increase considerably with the increase in the prilling rate.Two types of prill cooling systems are available and being utilised in different plants at the downstream of the prilling tower:a)Cooling by water in Plate type heat exchanger(Bulk Flow Cooler),b)Cooling by fluidised air(Fluidised Bed Cooler).The choice between Bulk Flow cooler and Fluidised Bed cooler rests mainly on the requirement and if cooling of prills is the only necessity,then Bulk Flow cooler is the better choice on account of lower capital and operating cost.IFFCO-Phulpur is first to commission Bulk Flow cooler in the country and also pioneers the use High Rise Conveyor for urea service.This paper shares the experience of implementation of Bulk Flow cooler at IFFCO-Phulpur(Phase-I)which proved to be an economic alternative for conventional Fluidised Bed prill cooling system.
