Fertiliser consumption: Andhra Pradesh is the second largest fertiliser consuming state in the country, next to Uttar Pradesh. During 2007-08, the consumption of total fertiliser nutrients increased by 10.4%, from a total of 2.484 million tonnes during 2006-07 to 2.743 million tonnes during 2007-08. All the three nutrients recorded positive growth during the year. The consumption of N, P2O5 and K2O at 1.616,0.740 and 0.388 million tonnes, during 2007-08 registered an increase of 10.2%, 7.9% and 16.9%, respectively, over 2006-07. NPK use ratio changed marginally from 4.4:2.1:1 during 2006-07 to 4.2:1.9:1 during 2007-08. Kharif: Rabi share in total consumption changed from 50:50 during 2006-07 to 49:51 during 2007-08. Per hectare consumption of total nutrients increased from 185.9 kg to 205.3 kg during the period. With this, the state of Andhra Pradesh has the highest per hectare consumption among the major states in the country.
