FERTILISER POLICIES

The year 2007-08, being the 1st year of the 11th Five Year Plan, assumes special significance. Performance during this year will have a significant bearing on the achievement of the targets for the entire Plan with regard to fertiliser and agriculture sectors. Clear policy directions for the fertiliser sector were urgently needed to achieve agricultural growth targets. Unfortunately, lingering uncertainties persisted through out the year with most of the policies regarding fertiliser pricing and subsidy remaining pending. A long-term pragmatic approach was missing. Only Guidelines for production and use of Customised fertilisers could be announced, that too towards the end of the year i.e., in March, 2008.
