Role of NABARD in Agricultural Development

摘要

Fertiliser, high yielding variety seeds, irrigation water, plant protection chemicals and credit play vital role in increasing agricultural production. Among these, credit is considered to be essential for purchase of agricultural inputs, required for raising crops. To cater to the credit needs of the primary financial institutions such as commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative banks for on-lending to rural clients for their farm and non-farm activities, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was set up in 1982. The role of NABARD in ensuring credit flow for promotion and development of agriculture, rural infrastructure, small scale industries, cottage and village industries and handicrafts is well established. In this paper an attempt has been made to present the role of NABARD in ensuring credit for promotion and development of agriculture, improving productivity and life style of the common farmers of rural India.
