Porous ceramics exhibit extremely low thermal conductivities and chemical stability up to 1600℃ These properties are desirable for high-temperature insulating applications andrience porous ceramics have previously been utilised in fields such as furnace insulation and more advanced applications such as the thermal protection system on aero-orbiting vehicles. The feasibility of adapting current porous ceramic insulating technology to the thermal protection of the internal wall of the combustion chamber in small industrial gas turbines isdiscussed. The successful development of a porous ceramic liner system will result in vast improvements in combustion temperatures by as much as 300℃, thus increasing turbineefficiencies and reducing noxious emission levels.
