Factors Affecting Fertiliser Consumption in Saurashtra Region of Gujarat

Various districts of Saurashtra Region of Gujarat have been identified to know the fertiliser consumption status, resource use efficiency and optimum fertiliser use under three periods (Period-I 1960-61 to 1974-75, Period-II 1975-76 to 1989-90 and Period-III 1990-91 to 2003-04). Among selected districts Rajkot topped the list in consumption during all three periods. Gross cropped area and gross irrigated area emerged as the chief factors determining the fertiliser consumption in this region. Use of human labour and nitrogen fertiliser were found less than the optimum level of requirement in most of the selected districts of Saurashtra Region of Gujarat.
