Changeover from Naphtha to RLNG at FACT Ammonia Plant in Udyogamandal Complex, Kerala

The M/s Haldor Topsoe designed stand alone ammonia plant of FACT at Udyogamandal, Kerala commenced operations, in the year 1998. As the ammonia production from this ammonia plant was utilized for making complex fertilisers and caprolactam only, the variance of the fortunes of the products held the sway to the load factor of the ammonia plant. With government-mandated obligations of time bound change from naphtha to RLNG (Re-gassified Liquid Natural Gas) due to the subsidy regime needs, FACT shifted to RLNG in 2013. The successful change over from naphtha to RLNG was done by an online switch over of fuel / feedstock. This paper briefs the unique feat, which now is also sketched in the legacy of the FACT achieved benchmarks.
