Indian Fertiliser Industry has been nurtured, grown and developed considerably since the independence of the country. India has emerged as the third largest manufacturer of nitrogenous and phosphatic fertilisers in the world next to China and USA. Currently, total number of fertiliser plants is 139, comprising of 29 urea, 10 Ammonium Sulphate, 1 Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, 19 NP/NPK (including 11 DAP) and 80 Single Super Phosphate plants. The total operating capacity of nitrogen (N) is 12 million tonnes (Mte) and phosphorous (P205) 6 Mte.
