The RCF Trombay sulphuric acid plant has a capacity to produce 300 mtpd acid using sulphur as raw material.This acid is produced mainly for captive consumption in its phosphoric acid plant and as a dehydrating agent in concentrated nitric acid plant.The sulphuric acid plant was installed in the year 1965 and was modified in phases to take advantage of developing technologies.An important aspect for operators of sulphuric acid plant is to keep the plant in running condition so that the adverse impact on equipment due to condensation on cooling is minimised.Reliability of the plant plays an important role in this regard.RCF,in its effort to improve reliability of this plant,has taken several steps which are enumerated in this paper.
