Insect growth regulatory activity of Andrographis paniculata (Fa: Acanthaceae) extracts against tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura

Aerial parts of A. paniculata were subjected to extraction with hexane and methanol. Hexane and methanol extracts (each at 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1 and 0.3%) were topically applied on the dorsum of 7-day-old larvae of S. litura. Larval and pupal weight reduction was highest with the methanol extract. Larval-pupal intermediates could be observed with both the extracts while abnormal adults were formed with methanol extract only. Normal adult emergence was reduced with both the extracts at the highest dose tested. With the methanol extract, it was 68.00% at 0.1 and 0.3%.
