The objective of this study is the improvement of drinking water treatment with activated carbon by oxidation of the carbon altering its physical and chemical properties. Oxidation is realised by means of two oxidants: ozone or ammonium persulfate. The treatment modifies the distribution of porous volume of carbon, creates surface conditions which appears to affect the rate, the capacity and character of pollutant elimination. Oxidation favors the retention of adsorbable and non#x2013;adsorbable compounds (humic substances, phenols, ethanol).
