The effect on ultrasonic B-mode image for ultrasonic imaging through thick phase distorted medium is analyzed. Relative echo level of the sphere's center part is introduced to indicate the quality of the medical ultrasonic B-mode images. The quantitative evaluation for image deterioration by thick phase distorted medium can be found from the estimation of the directivity of the ultrasonic transducer. 2-D array is constructed for compensating the phase distortion and the effect of the element size to the image improvement is investigated. Moreover, the method to minimize artifacts from the calculation of wave propagation through thick phase distorted medium is also described.
