Solid phase electrokinetics of Indion-225 cation exchange resin

摘要

Solid phase electrokinetics of Indion-225 cation exchange resin regenerated in H~+ form was studied employing defferent cell configurations.At 25deg C,the rate was 0.88 cm~-3 min~-1 whereas at 90deg C,the observed rate was 0.58 cm~-3 min~-1 for the cell Pt/R-H/Pt.However,the observed rate was 0.49 and 0.55 cm~-3 min ~-1 at 25 and 80deg C respectively employing the cell Cu/resin/Cu.Polarisation kinetics of the resin is governed by hopping of the protons from one site to another discharge of electrodes giving typical ionic behaviour of current polarisation.Hence,any decrease in proton concentration and non-availability of discharging sites on the surface of the resin are rate determining factors and consequently the order of the reaction was found ot be two with activation energies of 0.42 and 0.20 eV in case of Pt and Cu electrodes respectively.Electronic and ionic regions have been observed as suggested by Rosenbergs in case of proteins.The activation energy seemed to be strongly influenced by electrode materials.
