POPULATION DYNAMICS OF MAJOR SUCKING PESTS OF RICE IN RELATION TOWEATHER PARAMETERS

摘要

Among the most serious insect pests of rice in various south Asian countries, the brown plant hopper (BPH) Nilaparvata lugens (Stal.)(Homoptera: Delphacidae) and green leaf hopper (GLH) and Nephotettix sp., (Homoptera: Cicadellidae) are most injurious in India. Bhatnagar (1989) noted that BPH thrive well under weekly mean temperature of 26.9 °C, relative humidity of 66.5%, and total weekly rainfall of 0 to 2.8 mm. Peak population was observed during the late rainy season from October to November inmost areas of India. Another peak has been observed during the dry season from April to May in the regions where double cropping is widely practiced (Dale, 1994).
