Jamaican bauxite refiner Jamalco will convert its power plants to burn coal instead of imported fuel oil to cut costs. The volume of coal needed for the Jamalco refinery has not been determined by plant owners Alcoa and the Jamaican government, an official of the mining and energy ministry told Argus. “It will be logical to import this coal from Colombia,” to meet an end-of-2016 conversion target, the official said.
