According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) 4 billion lb (1.81 billion kg) of trap grease available in the U.S. each year could yield about 500 million gal (1.89 billion L) of biodiesel instead of ending up in municipal waste streams. The figures for oils and fats are similar.
