Systems design of augmented-reality collimator displays

This paper describes the optical systems of helmet-mounted augmented-reality displays. Designs are presented that are based both on a nonplanar combiner and a flat combiner that brings a supplementary image into coincidence with an image of ambient space. Examples of systems are given for various implementations that use an opaque image generator. (C) 2017 Optical Society of America
