Tuberous sclerosis is a rare disease in which the ocular complications consist of retinal astrocytic hamartoma and prominent skin papules (angiofibroma) on the lids. Hypopigmentation occurs in the retina, iris and skin in a characteristic manner. The astrocytic tumours occur also in the brain, causing mental retardation and in other organs, leading to serious systemic disorders. The differential diagnosis and managernent are detailed.
