This book aims to cover the curriculum for undergraduate Biochemical Engineering students. Two brief chapters have been written on microbiology fundamentals and biological polymers. The mechanisms and kinetics of enzymatic reactions, including industrial applications, have been discussed. The author has also solved half a dozen numerical problems in this chapter. The techniques of immobilisation of enzymes, then-advantages and applications have been covered in the subsequent chapter with a brief account of diffusion mechanism and effectiveness factor. With the help of numerical problems, biomass production in cell culture has been discussed in a separate chapter narrating the mechanisms of cell growth and their kinetics. The author has also included brief chapters describing the separation processes for downstream processing as well as fermentation technology. The last chapter deals with the control of microorganism. Kinetics and reactor analysis, bioenergetics and environmental microbiology have been included in the appendices.
