Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Research Station, Odakkali - A Centre for Promoting Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

India is blessed with innumerable medicinal and aromatic plants, most of which are traditionally used in Ayurveda, Homoeo, Siddha and Unani medicines. The scientific world has to focus much in this field to tap the hidden potential and to exploit their uses in different formulations of drugs. If the medicinal plants are appropriately planted as intercrops, the income from unit area of land in a coconut garden can be increased substantially. The Aromatic and Medicinal Research Station at Odakkali in Emakulam District, Kerala is in the forefront of the studies on this wild treasure of nature through an integrated and pragmatic approach. While the Ministry of Science and Information Technology, Govt. of India observes the year 2004 as the Year of Scientific Awareness(YSA-2004), all modes of communication based on agricultural science have to be deployed to equip the farmers and industrialists in agribusiness. The scientists of the Aromatic and Medicinal Research Station headed by Dr. Baby P. Skaria disclose the activities and functions of the station to Mini Mathew, Sub-editor of CDB.
