Chrome tanned leather waste from footwear and garment production represents potential environmental risk.Acid rain slowly extracts chromic tanning salts from leather waste that are accumulated in ground water,often used after oxidation treatment as drinking water.Chromic salts are oxidised to highly carcinogenic Cr(VI) compounds.For environmental reason,any treatment of chromed leather waste other than dumping is desirable.
