Growth of Trichoderma viride NCIM 1051 was studied in coconut coir pith solid culture in static conical flasks. Growth was characterized by the protein content of the culture. The growth curve identified the lag and the exponential phases of the culture, but did not identify the stationary and decay phases. The time course of cellulase induction and pH variation during the course of fermentation were also traced. The maximum cellulase activity (filter paper activity) obtained was 3.98 IU/g of substrate in 7 days of fermentation. The relationship between growth, cellulae production and the pH is discussed.
