Effect of fertility levels on quality of Brassica species under mid-hill conditions of himachal pradesh

A field experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of Department of Agronomy, HPKV, Palampurto study the effect of varying fertility levels on quality, oil and protein yield of three Brassica species. The results reveal that oil and protein content differed significantly amongst Brasslca species. Gobhi sarson [Brassica napus(L.)] recorded significantly higher oil content (44.49 percent), which was followed by brown sarson [Brassica catnpestris (L.)] (41.30 percent) and Ethiopian mustard [Brassica carinata (A.Br.)] (38.31 percent). Brassica carinata (A.Br.), Brassica napus(L.) and Brassica campestris (L.) recorded 754,719 and 632 kg/ha of oil yield, respectively. With increase in fertility levels from F_0 to F_3 resulted in consistent decrease in the oil content, whereas protein content increased significantly with increase in fertility levels from F_0 to F_3 irrespective of the species. Further, Brassica campestris (L.) recorded maximum protein content (19.72 percent) compared to Brassicanapus (L.) (19.38 percent) and Brassica carinata (A.Br.) (19.21 percent). Moreover, oil and protein yields also increased with increasing fertility levels and significantly maximum oil and protein yields were found in Brassica carinata (A.Br.) with the application of 150 kg N+80 kg P_2O_5+60 kg K_2O per hectare over other Brassica species.
