Seabuckthorn: a wonder plant of dry temperate Himalayas

Seabuckthorn has emerged as a potential plant for scientists, environmentalists, foresters, farmers and policy-makers, since it is quite useful in pharmaceutical and other related industries. A rich source of vitamin C (300-1,600 mg/100g), E and K, and bioactive substances, its fruits have been utilized for manufacturing wines, food products, dyes, medicines, cosmetics and beautry creams in Russia, China and Finland. Since 1954, seabuckthorn has also been widely planted in China to control soil erosion on 6 lakh ha of fragile moutainous lands. Owing to great economic and ecological potential, this wonder plant of the Himalayas should be popularized.
