Summarycolon; The purpose of this review is to focus on the current science and treatment of Achilles ruptures in today's athlete. Chronic Achilles tendonitis and degeneration are commonly seen in mature athletes who participate in running and jumping sport activities. The etiology is multifactorial and can be attributed to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Identification and correction of these biomechanical factors and training errors can reduce symptoms of chronic tendonitis and prevent ruptures. For inflammatory conditions, conservative care is the mainstay of treatment. Surgical treatment of acute ruptures appears to recover better functional capacity. This article presents a method of functional repair and rehabiliation.
