Correlation Between Milk and Plasma Components in Gir Cattle and Jaffarabadi Buffaloes During Different Lactation Stages

The study was conducted on 8 Gir cows and 8 Jaffarabadi buffaloes each at 1, 2 and 3 months of lactation. A verage milk fat, protein, lactose and SNF percentage was estimated in the milk of Gir cows and Jaffarabadi buffaloes during the first to thirdmonth of lactation. No significant differences were found for all the four components between the different stages of lactation studied both in Gir cows and Jaffarabadi buffaloes. However, significant (P < 0.05) differences were observed between Gir cowsand Jaffarabadi buffaloes in the fat, protein, lactose and SNF percentage at all the three stages of lactation studied. The correlation coefficient between milk fat percent and plasma cholesterol, milk lactose and plasma glucose and between milk proteinand plasma total protein levels at 1 m, 2 m and 3 m lactation was deduced. The overall correlation coefficient between Milk fat and plasma cholesterol, milk protein and plasma protein and milk lactose and plasma glucose were non-significantly positive in both Gir cows and Jaffarabadi buffaloes (except at lm and 2m for milk lactose and plasma glucose in Jaffarabadi buffaloes).
