Decomposition analysis of milk yield in members and non-members of milk producers cooperative societies

In 3 randomly selected blocks of Raipur district of Chhatisgarh state, 60 farmers (20 in each block with 10 members and 10 non-members) were made respondents to study the impact of joining Raipur Dugdh Sangh Sahkari Maryadit (RDSSM). Membership to MPCSs brought about an immediate upward shift in the threshold level of milk yield. Geometric mean level of milk yield was found relatively more in period I (September-February) as compared to period II (March-August). It was due to favourable climatic condition in period I. The empirical results from the study reveals that concentrates, labourers and capital flow are the main contributing factors to the milk production function for the overall contribution, irrespective of the members & non-members of MPCSs and seasons. The contribution of variable inputs to the milk production function of buffaloes was comparatively less than crossbred cows. Green fodder has been provided to milch cattle in the form of natural vegetation, which was negatively insignificant to the milk production function. Decomposition analysis revealed that yield of milch cattle was more in the members of MPCSs even-though same level of inputs were provided, which is perhaps due to proper care & management of milch bovines by the members of MPCSs.
