An experiment to assess the performance of early maturing sugarcane genotypes vis-a-vis nitrogen requirement was conducted during spring season of 2008-09 and 2009-10 at Sugarcane Experimental Area (Ladhowal), Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.Three promising genotypes viz. Co 5009, Co Pant 03219 and S 91/03 of sugarcane were evaluated at three levels of nitrogen (112.5,150.0 and 187.5 kg ha~(-1)) against standard check CoJ 85. Genotypes Co 5009 and S 91/03 recorded significantly higher canelength, number of millable canes and cane yield than CoPant 03219. Highest cane yield 83.41 ha~(-1)) was recorded for genotype S 91/03 which was at par to Co 5009 and CoJ 85. However, in terms of quality Pol (%) and CCS(%) and sugar yield obtained was highest in for genotype Co 5009 which was statistically at par to S 91/03 and CoJ 85 but significantly higher to Co Pant 03219. Application of 150 kg ha~(-1) showed significant improvement in number of tillers and millable canes over 112.5 kg N ha~(-1) butwas at par to the next incremental dose of 187.5 kg N ha~(-1). Cane and sugar yield also followed similar trends and showed significant response up to 150 kg N ha~(-1).
